p.s. Please help us track scanners that are compatible with this firmware update. email us the manufacturer, model the scanner and if it was successful or not. (email: support@orangemicro.com).
NOTE
Why do I need this update?
Many scanner drivers were written to work with Apple’s “old SCSI Manager” that was in the MacOS before the release of SCSI Manager 4.3. Apple has continued to support drivers written for the “old SCSI Manager” on its built-in SCSI ports.
Since users typically connected scanners and older devices to the built-in Apple ports and used third-party SCSI cards solely for new, high-performance hard drives. Scanner manufacturers continued to develop drivers to support only Apple’s “old SCSI Manager”. Scanner drivers written for Apple’s “old SCSI Manager” only look for SCSI BUS Ø (the built-in SCSI port) and are unaware of any other SCSI BUS.
This becomes a problem on the “blue G3” because there is no built-in SCSI port (SCSI BUS Ø). Add-in SCSI cards start as SCSI BUS 1.
Note: Check with your scanner manufacturer to insure you have the most up-to-date driver for your model scanner.
All files are in a self-extracting MacBinary encoded file. You will need StuffIt Expander to decompress the files properly.
This update allows access to SCSI scanners that are not Apple SCSI Manager 4.3 compliant and "blue G3" boot capability.
